Emily Doane, MA
Licensed Professional Counselor / Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Emily considers it a privilege to work with clients as they explore their stories, and believes that change happens in the context of safe, trusting relationships. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Health Education and Behavior from the University of Florida, Emily served the Florida community in HIV prevention and patient care through a variety of public health settings. Impacted by her own personal counseling and professional experience, she decided to pursue a Master’s in Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary to walk with others through their stories of pain in order to find freedom.
Emily believes in a holistic approach to therapy that seeks to integrate a client’s emotional and physical experience. She specializes in working with women and men wrestling with issues related to sexuality, trauma, relationships, and spirituality. She also has extensive experience working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, difficulty connecting to their emotions, life transitions, and issues related to HIV. Emily is trained in EMDR, an evidence-based therapy used in the treatment of trauma. She has also completed training on sexual abuse recovery from The Allender Center. Tailoring each session to the needs of her clients, Emily implements a variety of therapeutic modalities such as talk therapy, somatic awareness, EMDR, and sand tray therapy.
In addition to her work in private practice, Emily spent five years working for a school-based early intervention program counseling adolescents and supporting their families. She also partners with the Florida Department of Health’s Ryan White program to provide mental health services for clients living with HIV. Outside of the counseling room, she enjoys spending time with friends, cooking new recipes, hiking, and being active.
